Featuring [Krescendo] and The Little Branch
Summer was long gone and Autumn was saying her last goodbyes. We had camped our last night of the season, woke and made our usual pot of coffee over the fire and proceeded to pack up our little home away from home. The air was crisp despite the sun rising in the sky and I knew it wouldn’t be long before the snow began to fly.
As soon as I turned my back and headed towards the path that would lead to the SUV, I heard them. They were anxious to explore; excited by our exit, as though they knew we were turning the space back over to them for the winter. I paused to look back at them, the foxes who came every year to reclaim their space and smiled. There were more this year, at least one or two, and they were making themselves completely at home. I was happy to see them, to know they would feast on the last of the blackberries and mushrooms and then curl up on the warm wood of the platform and doze. There was, afterall, plenty of life still living at this water’s edge.
