Treasured Ornaments

Featuring *SK*, Lyrium and Refuge

I put up my Christmas tree this weekend and it is always a little bittersweet for me.  For starters I miss my daughter and mother terribly at this time of year, both of which still live in Michigan.  If I was there, we would be running here and there, to and fro, looking for Christmas treasures, old and new.

My tree is definitely not a show tree.  It’s not all “matchy-matchy” in singular shades of red, green, silver or gold.  It doesn’t have perfectly placed garland or ribbons or fancy, oversized ornaments.  What my tree does have is memories.

It has vintage ornaments that were like my grandma’s, found rummaging at estate sales with my mother.  It has four “Baby’s First Christmas” ornaments, all for the same baby, bought because they were too cute to pass up.  It has a tiny, white knitted bootie that was made for me the Christmas I was pregnant.  It has 3 tiny foil angels with delicately painted, plastic heads, which my daughter always demanded were hers to put on the tree.  It has a styrofoam cup decorated as a bell with pipe cleaners and glitter, made when my daughter was in kindergarden.  It has a brown lunch bag covered with red and white construction paper and white yarn, making it the cutest Santa a four year old ever made.  I could go on and on but I think you get the idea.

So, no….my tree is not a show tree…it is better than and worth MORE than any show tree…in fact it’s priceless.
