I know I have mentioned before the fact that I collect vintage children’s books. The poem above is one my mother used to read to my sister and I from A Child’s Garden of Verses. The book is an 1885 collection of 64 poems for children by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and they were written from a child’s perspective. I love them and read them to my daughter when she was little. This also got me wondering if anyone even still reads Mother Goose to their small children these days. My stepson (15) doesn’t really know any classic nursery rhymes and I have often wondered if it was because he was a boy or perhaps because his mother is not from the US originally. Is Mother Goose a thing in Ecuador? I don’t know but rest assured whenever I do get some grandchildren they will know their Mother Goose nursery rhymes!
